I love a good apple and blackberry crumble, it has always been a staple dessert in our house (particularly after a good Sunday roast!) but the way I’ve always made it can’t exactly be considered healthy.

That’s why I’ve created this Low Syn Apple & Blackberry Crumble recipe, to give myself the pleasure of eating my favourite pudding without worrying about high syn consequences! Whether you’re following Slimming World or not, this is a lighter version of the classic Apple & Blackberry Crumble recipe and as such makes a great choice when looking for a healthier pudding recipe.

A Slimming World Friendly Pudding Recipe

This recipe, as the name suggests, is a low syn pudding recipe for those following Slimming World. The recipe serves six people and works out at just 1.5 syns per serving plus one Healthy Extra B serving each.

By adjusting the crumble topping to focus more on oats than flour, and carefully adjusting the ingredients, this Low Syn Apple & Blackberry Crumble stays low syn and full of fibre which is perfect for Slimming World.

One of the most important things to remember when making this recipe is that it uses your Healthy Extra B choice for the day…and trust me it’s well worth saving it for pudding! It’s easy to forget that cooked fruit can be used as your Healthy Extra B on Slimming World, so both the fruit and oats in this recipe are counted as such.

The full syn value works out as follows:

500g Chopped Cooking Apple (2 HexB)
250g Blackberries (1 HexB)
2tsp Ground Cinnamon (syn free)
120g Oats (3 HexB)
25g Flour (4 syns)
33g Low Fat Spread (4 syns)
4tbsp Sukrin Sweetener (2 syns)

Total 10 syns
Serves 6
1.5 syns per serving + 1HexB

Just remember, if you are adding any toppings you’ll need to add some extra syns on top. The brilliant thing is, that because the crumble itself is so low in syns anything you add will most likely fit within your syn allowance for the day!

What You’ll Need

I suggest using Sukrin Sweetener in this recipe, although you can use other granulated sweeteners if you prefer. My reason for suggesting the use of Sukrin is that it performs much the same as normal sugar in baking and it can be substituted 1:1 against normal sugar.

You can shop for Sukrin on their website or on Amazon. For this Low Syn Apple & Blackberry Crumble, you can use another brand of sweetener but I would suggest going for a granulated one (over a powdered one) and if you can find one that is from a more natural source then that’s always advisable.

You’ll also need a deep baking tray that is deep enough to make crumble in. There are loads of different shapes of crumble dishes on Amazon if you don’t already have one!
