About Me

I’m Cliona, and this is my little slice of the internet (pun not intended!)

Cliona Keane

I’m the blond one here with my mum and little sister!

I live in Oxford (UK), in a little flat in the basement (hence the name) with my boyfriend, my dog Billy and my tortoise.

I’ve always been a foodie for as long as I can remember, but over the years struggled a lot with my weight. It reached a point in July 2015 where I had just had enough. I had had enough of feeling bad about myself, enough of wondering what others were thinking and enough of letting my lack of willpower get the best of me. I therefore took the decision to join Slimming World and it was the best thing I ever did for myself.

Since joining, Slimming World has become just a normal part of my every day life because instead of being on a diet, I’ve simply changed my lifestyle and I can be just as foodie as I was before! As a result much of what I post on here is now Slimming World focused, but it’s entirely relevant for anyone looking to lead a healthy, balanced life!

Since joining I have lost almost four stone and I’ve gained so much pride and self love! Here’s just a little ‘before and after’ transformation picture to show how far I’ve come…

IMG_8907

So I’m here to share and reflect on my foodie thoughts, my weight loss and my recipes old and new. I’m partial to the occasional review so you’ll see me post about brands I love to cook with or new products I discover. This is a space for me to write things down, my grandma had her recipe books…I’ve got the internet!

Thanks for reading!

Cliona x

I have gained so much confidence since joining Slimming World!

20/01/2017 at 1:38 pm I'm new to the slimming world and was so happy I found your site, you've explained some points that I was confused on. I'm a Brit living in the U.S and slimming world is very new here, so new in fact that there are no support groups you can go to but they do it all online, so finding your site is that extra motivation and help I need.

09/02/2017 at 12:29 pm Hi Cliona I have just come across your website and subscribed. I have fibromyalgia and an underactive thyroid so I have a very slow metabolism! I've always struggled to lose weight and I'm not much of a cook but am hoping your website will help. I've been going to a local Curves gym since May last year and have lost two and a half stone but my eating habits are appalling and I know my weight loss is slowing down and I want to learn how to eat more healthily but eat well! Thank you for your website Cheers Brenda

24/03/2017 at 6:18 pm Hi Cliona, Am a newbie to slimming world and in my second week. Only thing I am struggling with is my sweet tooth! Have tried a few things but a lot of recipes contain sweetener and I can't stand the taste of it! Any tips? Thank you!!! Xx

27/03/2017 at 2:26 pm Hi Danni, lovely to hear from you! Congratulations on starting your Slimming World journey! I have a massively sweet tooth so I totally feel your pain! I don't like most sweeteners either but discovered Surkin which is amazing and doesn't have that nasty aftertaste that most sweeteners have! It has the same texture and taste as regular sugar and can be used on a 1:1 substitution for sugar which is great! I'd really recommend getting your hands on some of that as it might help! If you don't like it though, mashed banana can be used to sweeten lots of recipes, such as pancakes or muffins, although you have to remember to syn it as 4 syns per 100g if it's mashed :) hope that helps! Good luck on your journey!

04/06/2017 at 11:57 am Hi Cliona I have just found your site basically because your yummy looking recipe for SW nachos caught my attention. I did SW many many years ago and lost 3 stone, but since then have totally lost the plot and just put lots more weight back on. I notice it has changed somewhat since I did it before so some of it is new to me now. Also since then I have been diagnosed type 2 diabetes which is no fun at all as I love carbs (potatoes mainly) Also a burden is my very sweet tooth. Basically, I'm just unsure if SW is worth trying again as a lot of the lovely recipes contain carbs. Any suggestions. X

07/06/2017 at 2:11 pm Hi Sally! I'm so glad you've found my site! Slimming World has probably changed a bit since you first did it (this might help: https://basementbakehouse.com/2017/01/how-slimming-world-works/) but it's still very much worth doing! I know there are lots of people who do Slimming World with type 2 diabetes, but I would get some proper medical advice from a doctor or advice from a SW consultant about any changes you need to make to the plan to fit. I do know there are lots of success stories where people actually get rid of their diabetes through Slimming World! You can also adapt many recipes that have high cards to use low carb options, for example using cauliflower rice or spiralized veg instead of pasta! Where there's a will there's a way and I'm sure it would still work for you :) hope that helps!

15/07/2017 at 9:37 am Cliona, I just wanted to say thank you for creating such a great place for us fellow losers to come for advice and tips. I visit a lot of pages to support my journey (and shamefully never leave a comment), but yours has really stood out for me as, welcoming, comprehensive and informative. So thank you again and I look forward to making more of your lovely meal ideas.
