I'm new to the slimming world and was so happy I found your site, you've explained some points that I was confused on. I'm a Brit living in the U.S and slimming world is very new here, so new in fact that there are no support groups you can go to but they do it all online, so finding your site is that extra motivation and help I need.

Hi Cliona I have just come across your website and subscribed. I have fibromyalgia and an underactive thyroid so I have a very slow metabolism! I've always struggled to lose weight and I'm not much of a cook but am hoping your website will help. I've been going to a local Curves gym since May last year and have lost two and a half stone but my eating habits are appalling and I know my weight loss is slowing down and I want to learn how to eat more healthily but eat well! Thank you for your website Cheers Brenda

Hi Brenda, Thank you so much for your lovely comment and let me say a huge well done for your dedication despite what many people would see as big impediments! I really hope my website helps you break some of those bad habits and shows you what delicious food you can eat whilst losing weight in a happy and healthy way! Trust me, Slimming World isn't your average diet food and this isn't your average diet blog! Well done again :) x

Hi Cliona, Am a newbie to slimming world and in my second week. Only thing I am struggling with is my sweet tooth! Have tried a few things but a lot of recipes contain sweetener and I can't stand the taste of it! Any tips? Thank you!!! Xx
    1. Cliona

      27/03/2017 at 2:26 pm

Hi Danni, lovely to hear from you! Congratulations on starting your Slimming World journey! I have a massively sweet tooth so I totally feel your pain! I don't like most sweeteners either but discovered Surkin which is amazing and doesn't have that nasty aftertaste that most sweeteners have! It has the same texture and taste as regular sugar and can be used on a 1:1 substitution for sugar which is great! I'd really recommend getting your hands on some of that as it might help! If you don't like it though, mashed banana can be used to sweeten lots of recipes, such as pancakes or muffins, although you have to remember to syn it as 4 syns per 100g if it's mashed :) hope that helps! Good luck on your journey!

Hi Cliona I have just found your site basically because your yummy looking recipe for SW nachos caught my attention. I did SW many many years ago and lost 3 stone, but since then have totally lost the plot and just put lots more weight back on. I notice it has changed somewhat since I did it before so some of it is new to me now. Also since then I have been diagnosed type 2 diabetes which is no fun at all as I love carbs (potatoes mainly) Also a burden is my very sweet tooth. Basically, I'm just unsure if SW is worth trying again as a lot of the lovely recipes contain carbs. Any suggestions. X

Hi Sally! I'm so glad you've found my site! Slimming World has probably changed a bit since you first did it (this might help: https://basementbakehouse.com/2017/01/how-slimming-world-works/) but it's still very much worth doing! I know there are lots of people who do Slimming World with type 2 diabetes, but I would get some proper medical advice from a doctor or advice from a SW consultant about any changes you need to make to the plan to fit. I do know there are lots of success stories where people actually get rid of their diabetes through Slimming World! You can also adapt many recipes that have high cards to use low carb options, for example using cauliflower rice or spiralized veg instead of pasta! Where there's a will there's a way and I'm sure it would still work for you :) hope that helps!
