Eight Things That Make Me Happy Right Now

In the wake of the horrific events in Brussels, and the horrendous atrocities in the rest of the world, its very easy to feel hopeless. The world has turned into a dark place in many ways, or maybe it always has been and we’re just waking up to that fact now. Either way, there’s no getting away from the realities that this modern world has bought with it, and nor should there be. We’ve spent plenty of time living in our own little bubble, and its about time that we faced up to the kind of future we  might be facing, because until we (and our governments) do that, there’s not much hope of a solution.

That being said, if we all stop seeing the good in the world then the darkness wins, and that’s not OK either. I often see people moaning about the endless silly videos on their Facebook feeds, or commenting on some frivolous happy article to chastise people for focusing on such silly things when there are bigger problems to worry about…but we need those things in our lives! As with all things my mantra is balance, lets face the issues and appreciate the wonders of life too…stay up to date with current affairs and binge watch the Kardashians if you want to…share just as many cat videos as you do petitions for change…don’t let the many sadnesses of the world take away your happiness.

So with that in mind, here’s a few things which make me really happy right now…

Positivity after tragedy…

We saw this after the Paris attacks, and we’re seeing it in Brussels, both on the ground and on social media. Not only is there a huge amount of love being directed to the victims and their families but the solidarity which arises from these events act as a single, shining beam of light. Just looking at some of the images of the aftermath you can see exactly why human compassion is important at a time like this. #PrayForTheWorld

These 10 Year Olds…

Seriously, there is hope for the next generation after all! You have to watch these girls turn the tables on the presenter of Daily Politics…it’s genius!

French Bulldogs…

Anyone in my life knows that I am a sucker for a frenchie! They make up about 50% of my Facebook feed and I will own one…eventually anyway! They make me happy, they make me laugh and they’re just so cute…this is what I mean when I talk about the light relief from the rest of it, I need it!

Sad Grandpa…

If you haven’t seen this story recently then you must have been living under a rock! In a nutshell, this girl tweeted a picture of her grandpa looking sad because he’d invited all 6 of his grandchildren for burgers and she was the only one who turned up. First of all, shame on the other five, but the reaction has been so heart warming. This is an example of people spreading positivity and love at a time like this, where family means even more and we should all be supporting the ones we love. Sad grandpa is even having a party to make burgers for everyone now…I think he’ll get a fair few turning up! More than anything this story has highlighted how much we need to look after the older generation, life shouldn’t be sad and lonely…I love my grandpa to pieces and the thought of him that sad makes me want to cry!

Boaty McBoatface…

This is simply one of the most wonderful examples of how brilliantly shit the British public is…the story speaks for itself so I’ll let The Huffington Post explain!

Easter…

This is on a more personal level, because we’re about to hit the four day Easter weekend and I’m going away with my family. It’s going to be great, I’m going to eat chocolate (relatively guilt free…sorry Slimming World!), and I’m going to be happy. Family is the most important thing and I can’t wait to spend a few days chilling with mine!

The fight against sexism…

One of my favourite stories at the moment is this one about Calvin Klein removing their unbelievably sexist advert featuring Fetty Wap (‘s FACE!!!!) with a caption ‘I make money in my Calvins’ next to a girl in her underwear with the caption ‘I seduce in my Calvins’. It always astounds me how these big brands can be so stupid! Sexism is still alive and well and its these not so little victories that move us closer and closer to equality! #MoreThanMyUnderwear

Me…

This last one might sound a bit self centred, but the old adage that you’re the only person who can make you happy is so true. I have amazing people in my life, a fantastic job, I’m on my way to reaching my weight loss targets and to be honest (and I know I’ve said this before) I am at a happy place for the first time in a long time…and it’s all because I made the decision to be happy, get a new job, lose weight and surround myself with positivity. Even over the last couple of  years when I’ve felt happy there’s always been at least one element that was out of whack…it felt like if I was happy at work then I was unhappy in myself (mainly because of my weight) and even when I started to get my body under control, my job was horrid. I can finally say that I have all the pieces, and it’s all about spreading that positivity now! I am also lucky enough to have an amazing man to face every day with… he’s pretty epic!
