Healthy Banana Oatmeal Blender Muffins
If you’re looking for a new, healthy snack or tea time treat then look no further. My Healthy Banana Oatmeal Blender Muffins are not only healthy, they’re also low syn on Slimming World and gluten free just to top it all off!
How Many Syns Are They?
Easy to make with just a blender and a muffin tray, they use oats instead of flour (used as your Healthy Extra B on Slimming World), they’re great with a nice cup of tea whether that’s at your desk for a work day snack, or sharing with friends at home. They’re got a light texture, with that slightly squishy centre you always get when making bakes with banana, and they’re only half a syn each on Slimming World!
The recipe for these Healthy Banana Oatmeal Blender Muffins makes a whopping 30 muffins, using a muffin tray with 20 spots, and you can have SEVEN of them for your Healthy Extra B on Slimming World. If you give me the choice between two measly cereal bars and seven muffins…I know what I’m choosing! If you decide not to use your Healthy Extra B for these, they are just under 1.5 syns each (so I’d round up to be safe), which is still pretty great.
I’ve marked the chocolate chips in the recipe below as ‘optional’, because you may want to leave them out to reduce syns and make them more healthy, however a bit of chocolate can really make a recipe and if you’re going to be enjoying these warm then I’d really recommend keeping them in! You get that warm, gooey, melted chocolate in the middle of the muffins and it’s super tasty! If you don’t use them, you can then take 6 syns from the total recipe.
To Make Sure They’re Gluten Free…
These muffins are also gluten free, so long as the oats you used are marked as such on the packaging. Some oats are made in the same factories as flour or products that use flour so if you are gluten intolerant then it’s essential to double check as you can’t just assume! The same goes for the baking powder and baking soda, so ALWAYS read the packaging before purchasing if it’s something you need to pay attention to. Of course if you don’t need to make them gluten free then you can use any oats you fancy and any baking soda/powder!
Synning Mashed Banana on Slimming World
Perhaps one of the most contentious issues on Slimming World is the fact that blended or mashed banana is required to be synned. The banana in this recipe is synned at 5 syns per banana, as they’re large ones (for small bananas you can get away with 4 syns each). Many people don’t syn banana, which is fine if you find that it doesn’t effect your weight loss, however there are reasons that Slimming World suggest that you do so.
The main reason that banana is synned when mashed, juiced or pureed, for example in a smoothie or in these Healthy Banana Oatmeal Blender Muffins, is that you are reducing the bulkiness of the fruit. When fruit is eaten in it’s normal form it is filling and you can only eat so many in one go.
If you have a smoothie, for example, with two bananas, strawberries, raspberries and maybe some other fruit too, you’re eating a lot more fruit than you’re likely to eat whole. This increases the calorie content of what you’re eating, as well as eating a lot of sugar. It might be fructose, so it’s obviously not processed sugar, but if you’re trying to eat a balanced diet then too much sugar (no matter what form it comes in). This doesn’t make much sense to those not on Slimming World, so if you aren’t following the lifestyle plan then please ignore it!
Making Healthy Food Swaps
No matter which lifestyle plan you’re following, be that Slimming World, another diet or just generally leading a healthy lifestyle, it’s important to know when to make healthy food swaps to improve your diet. Swapping flour for oats is one of those changes which can make a big difference. Oats are full of fibre, which is great for digestive health and helps to lower cholesterol, as well as antioxidants which help heart health.
Swapping processed sugar for naturally sweet fruits when adding flavour to baking recipes is another swap which can be very useful. Even if you’re following Slimming World, and therefore have to syn blended fruit, it’s a much healthier option than adding sugar to your recipe in the first place. The banana in these Healthy Banana Oatmeal Blender Muffins make them sweet, as does the vanilla yogurt (make sure to use a syn free variety if on Slimming World), so you don’t need to add a single extra bit of sugar to the recipe, excepting the chocolate chips if you decide to use them of course.

- 2x Eggs
- 2x Bananas
- 350g Vanilla Yogurt (syn free variety for Slimming World)
- 1/2tsp Baking Soda (gluten free if necessary)
- 1tsp Baking Powder (gluten free if necessary)
- 25g Chocolate Chips (optional)
- Blender
- Muffin Tray
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 180 degrees.
- Add all of the ingredients except the chocolate chips into a blender and pulse until smooth.

- They're best enjoyed slightly warm, but can be eaten cold later too!
Notes
17 syns for the whole mixture if dividing 30 muffins between four people. Healthy Extra B = 7.5 muffins. Chocolate chips = 6 syns. If you don't use them minus six syns from the total. If not using your Healthy Extra B the mixture is 41 syns, which makes the muffins 1.5 syns each. Syn values correct at time of writing. Please don't screenshot this recipe, share the link to help stop people stealing my recipes for their websites!
